Esta impresionante distancia lo convierte en el <strong>la carrera de canoas m\u00e1s larga del mundo<\/strong>. Los participantes cruzan el <strong>Canal de Kennet y Avon<\/strong> y el <strong>T\u00e1mesis<\/strong>conocida por sus corrientes especialmente violentas. En el transcurso de su viaje, los cetianos han <strong>un centenar de esclusas<\/strong> para cruzar, oblig\u00e1ndoles a cargar su canoa m\u00e1s de 150 veces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Regata Internacional de Pirag\u00fcismo se celebra en Semana Santa, una \u00e9poca del a\u00f1o en la que el tiempo puede seguir siendo duro. Cuando el sol est\u00e1 en su cenit, el mercurio s\u00f3lo sube a <strong>13\u00b0C<\/strong>Por ello, los chorros de agua fr\u00eda que llegan a los competidores no son los m\u00e1s agradables.  Tambi\u00e9n hay un obst\u00e1culo importante: <strong>parte de la carrera se desarrolla de noche<\/strong> \u00a1! S\u00ed, es cierto, <strong>90% se pierde cuando llega la oscuridad<\/strong>. Para entonces, los competidores ya han recorrido una media de 100 kil\u00f3metros. Estas diferentes caracter\u00edsticas hacen de la Regata Internacional de Canoas una carrera tanto t\u00e9cnica como mental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las dificultades de la carrera son tales que los militares brit\u00e1nicos est\u00e1n asumiendo el reto. El regimiento de paracaidistas, los Royal Marines, el SAS y las Fuerzas Especiales han asumido brillantemente este reto: desde <strong>De 1953 a 1970, las carreras fueron ganadas s\u00f3lo por militares.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Un origen at\u00edpico<\/strong>&nbsp;En 1948, Roy Cook se instal\u00f3 silenciosamente <strong>en un pub del Canal Kennet y Avon<\/strong>. Entonces se le ocurri\u00f3 la idea de unir Devizes y Westminster, pero no consigui\u00f3 completar la ruta. Tras su intento, <strong>un grupo de scouts<\/strong> se entera del desaf\u00edo de Cook y<strong> decide tomarla a su vez<\/strong>. La prensa se interesa por estos j\u00f3venes y sigue su haza\u00f1a.
